What is the booking process?
DIG will confirm the requested itinerary, dates, number of participants and reply with a quote.
Review the quote and ensure you’re happy with the details.
Payment can be made in advance or on the day of the tour in Japanese Yen.
DIG will finally confirm the booking along with any tour relevant information.
How can I confirm the availability of a particular tour?
Tours are available on an on demand basis, unless otherwise stated. To confirm tour availability on a specific date, please contact DIG Tokyo Tours.
How can I make payment for a tour?
Once an enquiry has been received, DIG will respond with a quote outlining the total price. Payment can be made electronically in advance or in Japanese Yen on the day of the tour. Payment via Paypal or direct bank transfer are the two accepted methods for prepayment.
What is DIG’s cancellation policy?
Due to the extensive organisation involved in composing each DIG tour, cancellation fees apply to compensate for costs and lost revenue. Once a booking has been made, the following cancellation fees apply:
Cancellation 30 plus days before departure - 100% of the tour purchase price refunded.
Cancellation 30 days - 24 hours before departure - 50% of the tour purchase price refunded.
Cancellation within 24 hours of departure - No refund.

How many people will be on the tour?
For group tours the minimum number of participants is 2 and the maximum 6.
For tours utilising the DIG tour vehicle, participant numbers are limited to a maximum of 5 adults due to vehicle capacity and comfort requirements.
Larger private, family and corporate tours can be arranged pending availability and tour suitability.
I’m travelling solo. Can I join as a single participant?
Yes, you certainly can and you’re bound to have a great time with a bunch of like-minded people to share the experience with.
In circumstances where minimum number requirements are not met, an alternate option may be offered or you will be provided with a refund in full.
What is the minimum age requirement for participants on group tours?
The minimum age requirement for group tours is 12 years old unless otherwise specified.
DIG caters for babies and children of any age on family and private tours.
Does DIG cater for families with babies and young children?
Yes. Families with young children, toddlers and babies can book a private family tour option when contacting DIG.
Tour itineraries for families are completely flexible and will be tailored with your family’s specific needs and interests in mind.
Having two young boys of my own there’s nothing I haven’t seen, heard, smelt or cleaned up. So rest assured your kids will have a great time while you can relax knowing that DIG can handle any surprises your family can throw at us.
Baby seats, booster seats and strollers are all available free of charge should they be required.
Can I customise a tour?
Yes, you certainly can by selecting one of DIG’s private or family tour options.

Where is the departure point for each tour?
Departure points and times are stated on the specific experience pages. Detailed instructions will be forwarded once the booking has been confirmed.
Where is the return point for each tour?
The return point is always the same as the departure point unless otherwise specified.
What happens if I’m running late?
Tours depart at the stated departure time with or without you, so please be on time. This policy is harsh but strictly adhered to for the enjoyment of other participants and for the tour to stay on schedule. No refunds will be given under any circumstances for being late and missing the start of a tour. Be on time!
Is there any possibility the tour may run past the listed return time?
Yes. While I do my utmost to get you back to the departure point on time, unforeseen traffic, weather, transportation issues and alike can impact on achieving this. It is highly recommended to take out travel insurance that provides coverage in the event of delay.
What happens if there is severe weather or other unforeseen event on the day of the tour?
If weather conditions are deemed dangerous by DIG, a modified itinerary will be offered or the tour will be cancelled. In the event of the tour being cancelled by DIG, all advance payments will be refunded.
What happens if the tour is cancelled by DIG before departure?
In the unlikely event that this happens, the cancellation will be confirmed in advance and all payments will be refunded.
Will credit and debit cards be accepted at places we visit?
As technologically advanced as Japan is, the nation is still very much a cash based society.
Please don’t solely rely on credit and debit card facilities being available at every destination visited by DIG.
What modes of transport will we be taking between destinations?
The exact modes of transport are listed on the tour page.

What should I bring on the day of the tour?
Besides a smile and positive attitude, a basic list of items you may wish to carry in a small daypack are-
Passport or permit. This is a requirement for non-Japanese citizens.
Money for souvenirs, snacks and drinks.
Camera or phone to capture those special moments.
Drink bottle or money for drinks to stay hydrated.
Hat, sunscreen and sunglasses during the warmer months.
Jacket and gloves during the cooler months.
Raincoat or Umbrella in case of a sudden downpour.
A copy of your travel insurance, emergency contact details, hotel address, DIG’s contact details and any other necessary documentation.
What type of clothing and footwear should I wear?
Neat, comfortable casual attire is more than appropriate for the bulk of DIG’s tours. Please refer to the tour notes if there are any specific clothing requirements.
As most tour itineraries involve covering large distances on foot, please ensure footwear is both practical and comfortable.
Do I need travel insurance?
It is highly recommended you have travel insurance to cover delay, cancellation, illness and injury, theft and personal liability.
How many guides are on each tour?
One experienced, native English speaking guide is allocated to each DIG tour.
What are the food options?
If the itinerary includes a meal, recommendations for local eateries will be presented to the group and the choice of cuisine decided upon by consensus. In most circumstances there will be several eating options available catering to all tastes.
If seafood or another particular cuisine isn’t to your liking then don’t despair as there is a wealth of authentic Japanese and Western options that will leave you both content and satisfied.
Vegetarian restaurants and dishes in Japan are not as prevalent as in Western countries so the options on occasion may be limited.
Is the consumption of alcohol permitted during the tour?
The consumption of alcohol is permitted at designated stops and where culturally acceptable.
Will inappropriate behaviour be tolerated?
No, not under any circumstances.
DIG staff are entitled to a safe working environment and all DIG participants to a safe and enjoyable tour. Any threats to safety or inappropriate physical or verbal behaviour will result in the removal of the offending participant from the tour.
Is tipping required?
No. DIG has a no tipping policy as the practice is not the cultural norm in Japan. A simple smile and thank you at the end of the tour is all that’s required if you’ve enjoyed the experience.
Positive word of mouth and social media comments are encouraged and greatly assist in projecting the quality of DIG’s services to future customers.
Is DIG an environmentally conscious company?
DIG respects the environment and continually makes efforts to cut down on unnecessary waste. DIG utilises reusable products and fuel efficient modes of transport wherever possible to reduce our impact on the environment.

DIG takes all complaints, no matter how big or small, seriously.
Is a first aid kit carried on tour?
Yes, a basic first aid kit accompanies the guide on each DIG tour.
Do I need to speak Japanese?
No, but it’s always fun to have a go.
For those more proficient in Japanese, you’re always encouraged to put your language skills to the test in the real world scenarios we encounter during the experience.
What are the passport requirements for entry into Japan?
Please confirm entry requirements with both your travel agent and the Japanese Embassy in your home country.
What level of fitness is required to participate?
The fitness requirement for each tour is listed in the tour notes. As a general rule, a moderate level of fitness is recommended to fully enjoy all cycling and walking tours offered by DIG.
